Ingredients

Batter:

  • 1 packet active dry yeast

  • 1 cup warm water

  • ½ tsp sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 2 cups flour

  • ¼ tsp salt

Honey Syrup:

  • Jar of Pure honey

Directions

  1. Mix the yeast with ½ cup warm water and sugar

  2. Let stand for 5 minutes

  3. Stir in remaining batter ingredients.

  4. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour

  5. When the batter has risen, stir it down.

  6. Heat oil, about 1½ inches deep in a large pan until very hot (375°F)

  7. Dip a teaspoon into the oil and use it to scoop up batter and gently slide batter into the oil. The batter will puff up to almost twice its size

  8. Continue making puffs

  9. Turn them with a slotted spoon until they are browned and crisp

  10. Drain them on paper towels

  11. Drop them into the cooled syrup to coat

  12. Let the excess syrup drain off

  13. Sprinkle the puffs with cinnamon and serve immediately

  14. Drizzle with honey: Drizzle as little or as much honey onto the puffs
